How Does The Tips Line Work?
Citizens are asked to call the tips line to report past crimes, wanted persons and illegal drugs. The calls are not taped or traced. Callers’ names are not asked.
Through the media, Crime Solvers advertises unsolved crimes and wanted persons. Callers who provide information leading to arrest, the recovery of drugs or stolen property, are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
How Are Callers Kept Anonymous?
When a caller calls the tips line, call takers assign the caller an identification number. Callers are asked to call back in 2 – 3 weeks. If the information leads to an arrest, the caller will be told how to collect their reward.
Names are never asked! When a caller collects the reward, they identify themselves by their ID number.
Who Administers Crime Solvers?
Crime Solvers is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of citizens like you who are concerned about deterring crime in our community.
The Arlington County Police Department investigates and processes the tips, makes arrests and recoveries, and reports the outcome of the tips to the board.
Where Do The Rewards Come From?
The Arlington County Crime Solvers, Inc., is a community endeavor funded by donations from individuals, businesses and civic organizations. The tips program receives no Federal, State or local monies. The program is an incorporated Federally tax-exempt, non-profit, non-stock, charitable organization dedicated exclusively to the fight against crime.
Is Crime Solvers Successful?
YES! Started in 1976 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Crime Stoppers International estimates more that 80,000 defendants arrested; almost $3 billion in recovered stolen property and illegal drugs; and $31 million in rewards paid out.
There are more than 50 programs in Virginia and over 1,000 programs worldwide including England, Germany, Israel, Guam and Canada.

Crime Solvers works because it offers the public a safe, anonymous opportunity to help their local police solve crime in their neighborhoods – and receive a reward for their effort!
